About Nurtured Beginnings

Mission

At Nurtured Beginnings, Theresa is dedicated to providing high-quality , advanced-practice breastfeeding support services to our moms and babies. Her mission is to help moms achieve their unique and individualized breastfeeding goals. 

Theresa Hardy, APRN-FPA, CPNP, IBCLC

Theresa is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/IBCLC in private practice with over 30 years focused on supporting moms and their babies. She has supported thousands of moms through their breastfeeding journeys, especially those with complex issues like tongue and lip ties. She will help you determine your personal breastfeeding goals, and walk with you every step of the way! 

Services

Theresa offers a wide range of breastfeeding support services, from prenatal breastfeeding classes and newborn weight checks to diagnosing oral ties and walking through the resolution process with you. She can also help with breast pump education and sizing, as well as supporting moms through high or low milk supply issues. Theresa is a pediatric nurse practitioner who can also prescribe medications and supplements to both mom and baby if needed. 

Comprehensive Advanced Lactation Support

Each breastfeeding journey is unique because you and your baby are unique. You may wonder if

your breastfeeding challenges are too hard to overcome, but with compassionate guidance

backed by solid information, most challenges can be worked through. With over 30 years of

experience in her role as a pediatric nurse practitioner and IBCLC, Theresa has extensive expertise with:


 Comprehensive, evidence-based tongue tie care

 Latch difficulties including shallow or painful latch

 Sore nipples and breast pain

 Slow weight gain

 Too much milk/not enough milk

 Breastfeeding multiples

 Plugged ducts and mastitis

 Introducing bottles

 Returning to employment

 Infant digestive difficulties


A consultation is never rushed! It begins with a breastfeeding and health history and identifying your goals, then together working on a “path forward.” This will include an observed feeding,

interventions to relieve nipple/breast pain and maximize comfort for both of you while ensuring adequate infant intake, and developing an individually tailored action plan. 


If you live in Champaign-Urbana or the surrounding communities, Theresa is happy to see you in your own home. For families outside the CU area, she has a comfortable and welcoming home office in Champaign.


Together you'll work on "Rule #1: Feed the Baby!" followed closely by "Rule #2: Protect and Promote your Milk Supply." And most important of all--nurture your close relationship with your sweet baby.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

2 hours

Prepare for your breastfeeding journey with our Prenatal Breastfeeding Class. Join us for expert guidance and support in a nurturing and informative environment! This class is generally held on the first Tuesday of the month 6-8pm at Christie Clinic in Champaign (1801 W. Windsor Ave). Contact Theresa or call Christie Clinic (217.366.1200) to sign up!

Initial Consultation

2 hours

A consultation begins with a breastfeeding and health history, and moves into goal setting and creating an individually tailored action plan. If you live in the CU area, Theresa can come to you, otherwise she has a welcoming home office in West Champaign where she looks forward to welcoming you!

Follow-up Appointment

90 min-2hours

Follow-up appointments focus on monitoring and addressing ongoing concerns, including weight-checks before and after feedings, support after oral tie resolutions, and continuing to work towards your breastfeeding goals.

Virtual Appointment

90 min-2hours

A Virtual Consultation offers convenient and secure breastfeeding support consultations from the comfort of your own home over a secure Zoom connection. (Not recommended for complex support needs).
